Minutes of Regular Meeting
Monday, March 4, 2013 at 7:00 PM
Harmony Lodge #22 Fellowship Hall in Beaufort, SC

The meeting was called to order by Commander Jim Thomas. The invocation was offered by Chaplain Tom Burnett. The flag salutes were led by Color Sergeant Christopher Gibson and the Charge was read by Commander Thomas.

Commander Thomas recognized and welcomed several guests.

The guest speaker was Compatriot Hu Daughtry from Metter, Georgia, who was accompanied by his wife, Susan. He was introduced by Lieutenant Commander Nolan Tarrance. The program was about Daughtry’s book entitled Confederate Tales of Candler and Connected Counties. He amused the Camp with several humorous anecdotes about his Confederate ancestor, Henry Thain of Company A, 1st North Carolina Light Artillery who was a recipient of the Confederate Medal of Honor for his heroism at Gettysburg.

Under Old Business:

  • Associate Pat Garrett, Chairman of Fundraising, extended his appreciation to all who had donated and participated in the auction held during the recent Lee-Jackson Banquet.
  • Lt. Commander Tarrance reported on the Confederate Memorial Day plans and asked for volunteers.

Under New Business:

  • Compatriot Christopher Gibson was installed as Color Sergeant by Commander Thomas.
  • A motion was made, seconded, and passed to present each of the Camp’s Hunley Award recipients with a $50.00 stipend to accompany the medal and certificate.
  • Col. Garrett announced that the winner of the silent auction of the Secession Monument Commemorative Coin was Mrs. Ginny Burnett with a bid of $127.00.

Adjutant Report:

  • Adjutant Paul Griffin made the minutes of the Camp’s previous meetings and the Camp financial records available to the membership. The Camp is financially sound.
  • He announced that the auction at the Lee-Jackson Banquet had net income of $1827.33 and commented that this was the best that the Camp had ever done.

Announcements:

  • Commander Thomas reported that a special Palmetto Package for the 2014 SCV National Reunion in Charleston, SC was available for $125.00. Details can be found on the SCV website.
  • Mrs. Barbara Wood, representing the United Daughters of the Confederacy, stated that applications were available from her for the annual UDC college scholarship.
  • Associate Alan Linsky, Heritage Defense Chairman, reminded the Camp of the upcoming primary election to fill the vacated 1st District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and encouraged all to vote.
  • Past Commander Jody Henson stated that the 2014 Sons of the American Revolution National Convention would be in Greenville, SC and remarked that our state would be hosting the national conventions of two, prestigious heritage organizations. He also announced that invitations to an SAR outing on March 21 at Cotton Hall would be forthcoming to the Camp membership.

The colors will be forwarded by Compatriot John Ramsey. Upon returning the colors Compatriot Monty Jones stated that they had sparked discussion both at his home and work, even to the point of his dogs showing an interest in them.

The door prize was awarded to Compatriot Ramsey.

The Benediction was offered by Chaplain Burnett.

Dixie was sung and the meeting adjourned at 8:25 PM.

Approximate attendance was 40.
